Seven Things Bigger than Pluto Part 3

Writing, Running, and Ragging on Pluto

Day three and Pluto still has quite a beating to take.

Today’s thing that is larger than Pluto is Triton.

Triton is the largest moon of Neptune. This is the object in our solar system closest in size to Pluto but that is still bigger. Triton is also a weird and fascinating moon on it’s own. It has volcanic activity and an atmosphere.

There are four different planets that have moons larger than Pluto. Four. That is half the Solar System. Half! Half the planets in our solar system have moons larger than Pluto. We would have so many planets if we included them.

And that is a rabbit hole worth mentioning. If we include all the dwarf planets we have we between two and three dozen planets. Honestly, that is far too many. Eight is a great number because the size matters and it helps make astronomy accessible to those without deep science backgrounds. We can discuss them and their differences without getting lost in the woods. Just imagine the mnemonic needed for 30 some odd planets? Mother very easily went on and on and on and on and on because some people just could not let go of Pluto.
